We started at the Berlin Wall Documentation Center on the Bernauer Straße. It is the only preserved piece of the wall with the East German security zone still preserved. The area still has a very no-man’s land feel to it. They have rebuilt a chapel on the site where an old church demolished by the DDR had stood.
Then we had lunch in Prenzlauer Berg. Food was inexpensive there. We discussed the “Wall Jumper” book over lunch. I bought an ice cream for dessert.
Then we went to the East Side Gallery, near the Ostbahnhof. It is a rather lengthy, preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall, whose East side now has much artwork on it.
