Today we had a walking tour of the Jewish Quarter with our tour guide, Hartmut. We had lunch at a restaurant where they train waiters. We looked at the site of the Jewish Cemetery and the only grave marked is Moses Mendelsohn. We visited the “Neue” Neue Synagogue. They only rebuilt part of it because the once vibrant Jewish culture has not returned. It is a powerful display of architecture with the original cleaned up and the rest of the structure is the plain color of the new material. That afternoon Dr. Goebel gave a lecture on Dresden. I drove to Dresden tonight. It was nice to sleep in the cool air-conditioned car.
